Horses' Haven - Rideable Horses

Due to the sensitive nature of rescue work, some of our horses are not listed on our website. Occasionally there are cases where photo ID will be requested in the beginning phases of adoption inquiries to ensure safe placement of our horses.

If you are interested in sponsoring or adopting any of the horses below, please contact us today!

BREEZY
Breed:  Arabian/Quarter Horse          Sex: Mare          Age: 12           Height: 14.3hh          Color: Chestnut
Suitable for: Intermediate to advanced level rider experienced with finishing horses
Disciplines: Suitable for any discipline
Adoption Fee: $3500

Breezy was started under saddle when young but then spent the last several years as a beautiful pasture puff. She has been pastured with both mares & geldings.

She was restarted this spring and W/T/C both directions, has been desensitized and will walk over tarps, poles, etc.

She has potential to go in many directions - with her size and personality she could be a good 4H level show horse with more training, and would make a fun project for someone with experienced in finishing horses or working closely with a trainer.

She is ready to hit the trails and will happily work in the arena!

Breezy is off site in training with one of our partner trainers & training will continue until adopted.

CHICO
Breed:  Other          Sex: Gelding          Age: 17          Height: 14.1hh          Color: Chestnut
Suitable for:  Experienced Horseperson/Trainer
Disciplines: Prospect for Any Discipline, Trail Riding
Adoption Fee: $1500

Chico has quickly become a farm favorite with his good looks and friendly personality! This blond haired beauty came to us from another ASPCA partner seeking more training opportunities for him. He was gelded a few months ago and before that enjoyed life as a stallion. This means Chico may never be able to be pastured with mares and his introduction to geldings should be done slowly.

We suspect that Chico has had very little formal training but so far he has been a willing participant! He enjoys attention, loves to be groomed and has accepted a rider. He can be difficult to handle from the ground when distracted but has improved with every training session. We will continue his training and cant wait to see what else this clever boy knows!

DIVA
Breed:  Andalusian          Sex: Mare          Age: 18          Height: 14.3hh          Color: Dark Bay
Suitable for:  Intermediate/Advanced Rider
Disciplines: Trail Riding, Companion
Adoption Fee: $500

Meet Diva, a breathtaking Andalusian mare with the grace and elegance to turn heads wherever she goes. Having spent the last several years as a pasture puff, Diva is now ready to shine in a new role as a companion or possibly a light riding companion.

Diva is seeking a personal trainer, or fitness buff! Since arrival, we’ve worked to get Diva into shape- she’s lost a hundred pounds, but still needs help getting into a shape other than “round”. During her riding evaluations, she proved she still has all the moves under saddle, and was level headed on trails and in the arena.

She has to potential to be a light use trail horse but needs someone willing to refresh her under saddle and build back riding fitness, and she is serviceably sound.

She has thin soles, but prefers not to wear shoes, so if you plan to ride, boots or soft ground is recommended.

Diva is a very honest & responsive mare, and you will always know how she’s feeling, which makes her a joy to interact.

Her beauty is a bonus, but her personality makes her well worth taking them time to get to know.

GUS
Breed:  Mustang          Sex: Gelding          Age: 3          Height: 14.2hh          Color: Chestnut
Suitable for:  Experienced Horseperson/Trainer
Disciplines: Prospect for Any Discipline
Adoption Fee: $1500

Gus is a charming young mustang that is ready to start his riding career! As a yearling he lived with a liberty trainer and excelled - even learning a few tricks... he had a year or so off as a pasture ornament, and when he arrived at our rescue he was quite thin... in his short time here, he has gained weight and muscle and charmed most of the farm... he's now ready to take the next steps to a riding career,  with his personality & background he will be great fun to work with!

He is up to date on all his dental/vet and farrier care. He gets along with his pasture mates and is a pleasure to handle, and is as playful as a typical 3 year old.

Gus is narrow shouldered and petite, but may continue to grow and develop. He will need someone experienced in starting horses under saddle or working closely with a trainer.

IRIS
Breed:  Paint          Sex: Mare          Age: 6          Height: 14.3hh          Color: Chestnut Paint
Suitable for:  Experienced Horseperson/Trainer
Disciplines: Prospect for Any Discipline, Trail Riding
Adoption Fee: $2000

*Adoption pending!*

Iris is quite honestly the type of horse we get so many requests for! She has the brains and beauty to be a rockstar in so many ways! She is suitable for an advanced rider with experience finishing a horse, or someone willing to put her into a training program.

She has had a handful of rides under saddle, and is still considered green. She needs more ground work as well, as she currently lunges (but not perfectly), and is learning to long line.

She has been nothing but an angel for us and should make an excellent riding partner for a variety of disciplines, with continued consisten training and guidance.

Iris had a very thorough soundness exam, and it was decided that because she has mild navicular, she should have proper shoes/wedges to keep her most comfortable. Films available upon request!

She is an absolute angel for farrier and vet work, and is up to date on all dental and vet care as well.

Iris appears to be middle to lower in herd hierarchy when turned out. She stalls well, ties, enjoys being groomed, and is great for baths! She can't wait to meet her new people, and continue her training!

Training will continue to adoption, and thus, her adoption fee may increase.

KUSAMA
Breed:  Grade          Sex: Mare          Age: 8          Height: 14.2hh          Color: Black Pinto
Suitable for:  Experienced Horseperson/Trainer
Disciplines: Gaited, Prospect for Any Discipline, Trail Riding
Adoption Fee: $1000

Kusama is a sweet and kind mare. She is shy and cautious but very eager to learn. She came from one of our partner rescues down south. In her earlier years, she was a feral horse and part of a free roaming herd. She will be a fun project for someone looking for a challenge as a training project.

She has had many hours of ground work but would do best in a calmer setting and daily one on one attention. She will continue light training while she is here but she is hoping to meet her perfect match to help her succeed.

Kusama is not broke to ride yet, but enjoys grooming and attention. She is up to date on her vet/dental and farrier care.

If you think you might be a good match for Kusama's future, please fill out an adoption application!

*She needs a handler/trainer experienced with flighty and nervous horses*

MILES
Breed:  Standardbred          Sex: Gelding          Age: 3          Height: 15.0hh          Color: Black
Suitable for:  Experienced Horseperson/Trainer
Disciplines: Prospect for Any Discipline, Trail Riding
Adoption Fee: $1500

Miles is a sweet and playful young standardbred gelding. He has been very sensible when introduced to new things and would thrive under a consitent training program. Miles was not blessed with the best conformation in both hind limbs. He struts a less than ideal clubby hoof on one side and a not so straight lower leg on the other.

With those details in mind, it will be very important that his adopter has a great and close relationship with their vet and farrier. Miles is sound and moves so beautifully! As he grows and continues his training, proper hoof trims and following recommendations from your vet will be vital in this boy being a long term riding partner!

Miles has just started some light training. He enjoys being groomed, picks up all four feet and is a gentleman to handle. He has learned how to lunge and wear tack. He has recently had his first sits with a rider and did great! His adopter will need to have experience training young horses or have the resources and consistent help in order to help his training be successful!

He currently lives in a herd of geldings. He was gelded earlier in 2024 and so he should be introduced to mares slowly and with caution.

PIPPY
Breed: Pony          Sex: Mare          Age: 2          Height: 13.1hh          Color: Black
Suitable for: Experienced Horseperson/Trainer
Disciplines: Prospect for Any Discipline
Adoption Fee: $1500

Pippy was collected as a free roaming feral horse in December 2023.  She has turned out to be just the sweetest little gaited mare. She has had extensive ground work and loves learning new things. She is very easy to handle and a joy to be around.  Her friendly and eager personality will make her so much fun to finish as a riding horse next year!

Pippy has learned how to wear tack, lunge and stand for the farrier. She is up to date on all medical, dental and farrier care. Pippy will need an adopter with previous experience in starting horses or someone willing to put her in training with an experienced trainer.

Please contact us if you are interested in meeting Pippy!

RENATA
Breed: Grade          Sex: Mare          Age: 7          Height: 14.3hh          Color: Chestnut
Suitable for: Advanced/Trainer
Disciplines: Gaited
Adoption Fee: $1500

Renata is a stunning and flashy chestnut mare looking for an advanced and experienced adopter to help her be the best horse she can be. She came to Horses' Haven from one of our partner rescues down south, where she started life as a feral horse.  She has come so far and has been lightly started under saddle. She is very kind and sweet but can be "snorty" and alert.

Renata does appear to be gaited, and she is up to date on all of her medical/farrier/dental care. All that is left is for her to start her next chapter!

SADIE
Breed: Grade          Sex: Mare          Age: 18          Height: 15hh          Color: Grey Pinto
Suitable for: Intermediate to Advanced rider (may change as we know her better)
Disciplines: Under evaluation - but likely trail riding and ring work
Adoption Fee: $750

Information current as of 10/13/24

Sadie is an eye-catching girl that we have slowly been getting to know!  On the ground, Sadie is a good girl and enjoys being groomed and loved on and is the first to greet you at the gate. She tends to be higher up in the herd hierarchy and has been pastured with mares and geldings.

Sadie is gaited, and requires light maintenance, we've just started to get to know her under saddle and its evident she knows a thing or two but requires a refresh.  She's eligible for adoption now to someone interested in putting in the time to discover her talents, her adoption fee will increase as we spend more time in the saddle with her... check back for updates!

Sadie is up to date on all her vet, farrier and dental care. She is eagerly waiting to meet her new family and settle into her new home!

SHIRLEY
Breed: Grade          Sex: Mare          Age: 15          Height: 14.2hh          Color: Bay
Suitable for: Intermediate rider working with trainer, or advanced rider/trainer
Disciplines: Prospect for Any Discipline, Therapy - Non-Riding, Trail Riding, Companion
Adoption Fee: $1500

Shirley is one of our most mellow girls on the farm! She has the most beautiful chocolate colored coat and such soft eyes!

She has a somewhat interesting and partially unknown history but we are doing our best to tap into her potential and see what she knows!

So far, she has been accepting and seems familiar with tack. She is good for the farrier/vet and enjoys being groomed.

Undersaddle...Shirley is all whoa and zero go! She has been the best lead line performer we have ever had the pleasure of trying out! She is still learning to move out independently with a rider, and prefers the lead line experience. With all this said, throughout our training sessions, she still remains as pleasant as can be!

She will need someone experienced with training green horses as at this point she knows very little under saddle - she's not yet ready for the inexperienced rider to ride solo. With proper training she should excel as a children's mount (or small adult)

Shirley is up to date on all her medical, farrier and dental needs & is microchipped.

SULLY
Breed: Grade          Sex: Gelding          Age: 5          Height:           Color: Chestnut
Suitable for: Experienced Trainer
Disciplines: Prospect for Any Discipline, Sully is not yet under saddle
Adoption Fee: $1200

Sully is seeking a soul mate, someone kind, confident, and patient who will take the time to help him develop into a confident equine citizen.

He has a stocky build, of indeterminate breed and has not shown to be gaited. Less than a year ago, Sully was a feral stallion rounded up from the strip mine herds in Kentucky. No longer feral, he still lacks confidence, and is typically the bottom of the herd of geldings he's pastured with. He hasn't displayed any stud-like behavior or interest in nearby mares. He can be stalled or live outside 24/7 with shelter.

He can be very fearful at times, and can freeze/bolt unexpectedly, but at the same time, is also willing to trust his handler in all kinds of new situations, including obstacle courses- he just may momentarily freak out. He does best when his handlers carries on as if nothing has happened.

He lunges, ties, and accepts tack, is comfortable with the mounting block, but we are continuing to build confidence on the ground before starting under saddle work. He needs continued work with the farrier, and may need sedation to start.

He has a quality about him that draws you in, and makes you stay just a bit longer for a few extra scratches. He would thrive in a one on one relationship with a partner.

Sully will need someone experienced with fearful horses, calm and confident themselves, and willing to take the time it takes to develop this kind and sweet gelding!
